Helpful Questions to Engage People About Their Beliefs

I am going to start a few posts that will help equip you to invest your lives in other people who don't believe in Christ.

One of the most intimidating factors about engaging people about their beliefs is you might feel like you need to have all the ANSWERS. But actually good QUESTIONS are almost always better in the first interacttions than giving people answers.

Why? Because you are not the one doing the talking. When you ask good, respectful questions people don't think you are trying to force something on them, but engaging them respectfully.

Take, for instance, a coworker who you know and joke around with often and even hang out with during lunches or after work. When you want to switch the conversation to spiritual things, you may feel like you may need to explain your faith, but it is better to ask your coworker to describe theirs. A great starter question is, "Do you have any spiritual belief?" And then let them talk as long as they like. A great follow up question might be "What made you arrive at this conclusion?"

Again the point is to LISTEN. Listeners are learners, and it is one of the greatest expressions that we can give that we care.

More to come...
